Ground ‘Madras’ Turmeric also known as ‘Curcuma’ or ‘Haldi’, is a rhizome that is grown in Maharastra /Tamilnadu state of India. It is most common Turmeric, gives bright yellow color, has distinctive flavor, milder than Alleppey turmeric, slightly aromatic & bitter taste.
It has 2% volatile oil and only 2% of Curcumin content.
Madras turmeric has a distinctive flavor and generally used when color is sought without the characteristic flavor. Widely used in Indian, Asian & Middle Eastern spice blends, pickles, curry powder and pastes.
